Students in the social sciences at UC Santa Cruz study human relationships and society. They answer fundamental questions:
In the Social Sciences, we ask the big questions with an eye to what kind of difference they can make in the world. And we support our students.
Awards and fellowships give students opportunities to study. To explore. And to make a difference. Like Yethzéll Díaz, inaugural recipient of the the Gabriel Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship, who now works as a member of the Diversity in IT research team at ETR (Education, Training, Research), a nonprofit that advances the work of health, education and social service providers. She is increasing opportunities for underrepresented populations in science, math, and engineering. She says:
“The scholarship helped me to understand and see the value of being willing to pursue something that I believed in and the power of dedicated people to create meaningful change.”
Seven out of 10 undergraduates need support in order to be able to attend UC Santa Cruz. An even greater percentage of graduate students rely upon support from grants and donations. For many students, awards provided through donations are critical.
Providing awards and fellowships is a top priority for UC Santa Cruz. Your support on Giving Day will ensure that students have the funding they need to pursue their degrees.
