Stevenson College: Undergraduate Research

Founded in 1966, Stevenson College is one of the first colleges at UC Santa Cruz. The theme of the college, “Self and Society,” emphasizes the goals of both self-understanding and active participation in one’s community. Stevenson students’ wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and interests; the two-quarter core course, Self and Society; and the wide array of lectures and community events contribute to making Stevenson an especially stimulating environment.

This Giving Day, Stevenson College is focusing on becoming a campus pioneer in undergraduate research. Stevenson students who have already received awards have pursued such important research as creating a device that can detect early kidney cancer and exploring the functions of the human brain by studying the neurological condition synesthesia.

Grants and awards for undergraduate research are critical in providing students with opportunities to gain work experience in the field they are passionate about. By funding research early and creating a competitive research review, Stevenson students gain valuable skills for future careers in research by preparing grant proposals and business plans, in addition to conducting research.

A gift to Stevenson College on Giving Day will ensure that every student with a great research proposal gets the funding they deserve. Your support for undergraduate research will not only create opportunities for students in the university, but will also prepare them for success in their careers and contribute to advancements in a variety of fields.

Linda Peterson has provided $2,500 in matching funds for Stevenson College. Your gift will have twice the impact, so join the game and make a gift today!
