The African American Resource and Cultural Center provides a wide range of support, resources, and programs for students from the African diaspora at UC Santa Cruz. One program that the AARCC has been trying to jump-start is Black Academy, which is a program designated for freshmen to build community and become acclimated to the UC Santa Cruz campus before the influx of people during Welcome Week. Knowing that the experiences of African, black, Caribbean (ABC) students are unique, this program aims to help retain those frosh. This is one of the few programs that AARCC has geared toward first-year students. With this and similar programs we hope to sustain a lively number of ABC students on the UC Santa Cruz campus.
