In response to the growing disconnect between young people and nature, alumni Darrow Feldstein and Kevin Condon began the Bird School Project to inspire students and teachers to develop a scientific understanding and appreciation for their local birds and habitats. Using observational techniques, binoculars, and field journals, the project helps students engage with the outdoors through real-world inquiry.
Now the Bird School Project is seeking funds to help expand its program and support experiential, inquiry-based bird-watching programs at elementary and middle schools throughout the Monterey Bay area. These funds will go directly toward tangible, hands-on programming in our local schools and will help us set the groundwork for replicating this program. Deciding to support the Bird School Project is more than a donation. We maintain close connections with our donors in trust that their donation stemmed from a greater passion to enhance natural history education in classrooms. When we receive a donation, we understand that our dreams are the donor’s dreams, too. With enough donor support, the Bird School Project can accomplish its goals of inspiring our students, equipping them with the necessary tools, and creating awareness, knowledge, and love for local natural places and creatures through bird watching.
Two generous donors have provided a $2,000 match to double the impact of gifts to the Bird School Project!
