Lick Observatory Self-Guided Walking Tour

As part of UC Santa Cruz's Giving Day on May 11, we're raising funds to install permanent signage at 12 historic locations around Lick Observatory's telescopes and grounds as part of a self-guided, educational
walking tour.

The observatory is a popular site for visitors, as one of the few places in the world where historic telescopes operate alongside new telescopes that employ the latest technology. Approximately 30,000 people visit the observatory each year. Permanent signage for the walking tour will help those visitors appreciate the observatory's telescopes, scientific achievements and prominent role in the history of UC and California.

UC's Lick Observatory, founded in 1888 and located on Mt. Hamilton to the east of San Jose, has served astronomers and researchers throughout the UC system for the last 128 years. Since 1965, the observatory's administrative headquarters have been located on the UCSC campus and its buildings, roads and other mountaintop infrastructure are maintained by UCSC.

Two generous donors have provided a $10,000 match to double the impact of gifts to Lick Observatory!
