Below you will find answers to many common questions about Giving Day 2016.
What is Giving Day?
Giving Day is a 24-hour online fundraising drive to support UC Santa Cruz students, faculty, and campus programs. Dozens of project teams are reaching out to build support for their favorite programs.
When is Giving Day?
May 11, 2016. Donations made between 12:01 a.m. and midnight will count toward the Giving Day total.
What are “matches” and “challenges”?
These are two ways to maximize the impact of gifts on Giving Day. Matches, created by donors for favorite projects, mean that up to the stated amount, other gifts will be matched 1:1. Challenges, also funded by donors, give a dollar boost to projects that have the most donors in a specified time period. A list of challenges and matches can be found on the Giving Day homepage, givingday.ucsc.edu.
Do I have to use the Giving Day website to make a gift?
You can give by whatever method you prefer, but only gifts made using the Giving Day website, givingday.ucsc.edu, will be recorded in real time.
Can I make a gift by cash or check on Giving Day?
Yes. Checks should be made out to the UC Santa Cruz Foundation, and indicate in the memo line the project they are supporting. On Giving Day, checks and cash can be delivered in person from
- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at University Relations, 2155 Delaware Ave, Suite 200, Santa Cruz
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on campus at Kerr Hall, entrance lobby.
Gifts will also be accepted by Giving Day staff at pop-up events (see schedule below). When you make your gift you will be asked to fill out a short form with your contact information. If questions, call 831.459.2489 or email givingday@ucsc.edu.
Can gifts be made to funds not featured?
Yes. Donors can support any campus fund they choose, whether or not it is one of the projects featured on the Giving Day site. Note that projects not featured are not eligible for match and challenge funds. You can search or browse the A-Z list of all giving opportunities to access funds beyond those featured today. All gifts made on May 11 to any fund will count toward Giving Day totals, and toward the Campaign for UC Santa Cruz.
Is there a minimum gift?
The Giving Day website requires a minimum gift of $10.
Where does the challenge money come from?
