Club Men's Rugby

UC Santa Cruz has a long-standing rugby tradition dating back to the university's pioneer days. Founded in 1967 by Dan Porter, the Men's Rugby Club not only was the first intercollegiate sports team on campus, but also launched the Women's Rugby Team just 12 years later in 1979. From our iconic Banana Slug mascot to the back-to-back runs at the USA Rugby Women's Division II National Championship in 2006 and 2007 (Gold and Silver, respectively!), UC Santa Cruz Rugby has left an indelible mark on our campus.

Today the UC Santa Cruz Men's Rugby Club continues as the oldest and largest club on campus, and is a core piece of UC Santa Cruz culture. Our current students are proud to uphold the Slug Rugby legacy while blazing a new path into the future. Our success depends not only on our dedicated volunteer coaches and our committed student-athletes, but also on the generosity of our family, friends, and outstanding Rugby alumni! Please help us reach our goals by making a gift to the UC Santa Cruz Men's Rugby Club!

Funding will go towards a variety of basic club needs. Your donations provide equipment like balls tackling bags which are essential for practice and developing skills. Funding also goes towards other expenses like providing transportation to games and paying entrance fees for tournaments. Your donations enable our team to stay competitive in the league and allow students to play who may not otherwise be able to afford it.

Giving Day is a fantastic opportunity for us to raise these much-needed funds. Along with the donations themselves, the university provides additional funding to the groups with the most donors.  With the size and dedication of the Slug Rugby alumni and family network, we are in a prime position to win additional funding for Men's Slug Rugby. Every gift, no matter how modest or generous, helps us to decrease the financial burden students face and expands opportunities for students to play the game that we all hold dear.
