Women in Science Society

The UC Santa Cruz Chapter of Women in Science Society works to foster academic excellence, develop professional skills, create networking opportunities, and promote social bonds between members. We do this by:


  • Hosting professional development and academic success workshops.
  • Sending members to scientific conferences as well as hosting our own symposia. 
  • Helping members learn about research and volunteer opportunities as well as shadowing experiences.
  • Facilitating connections with professors on campus, and with WSS members at other campuses. 
  • Hosting community-building events within our organization and the greater Santa Cruz and scientific communities.


The Women in Science Society is a national organization that began at San Diego State University and has expanded to UC Santa Cruz. Thanks to your support at Giving Day 2020, we have now become an official chapter of the Women in Science Society! With your continued support this Giving Day, we will have the opportunity to send our members to conferences, host incredible speakers, provide scholarships to our members, and help all of our members succeed in their academic and scientific endeavors.


This Giving Day, we are seeking to raise $5,000 to support our shift to a hybrid educational model. This funding would allow us to hold both in-person and virtual events such as faculty networking events, career speakers, symposia, and more, to open doors for our members near and far, as well as the entire UC Santa Cruz community. Please consider donating to the Women in Science Society at UC Santa Cruz on Giving Day!
