Each year, more than 2,000 students participate in trips and other activities with UC Santa Cruz Adventure Rec. Adventure Rec student leaders are the foundation of many of these trips. Their leadership qualities help craft the magic of students' Adventure Rec outings, bringing lasting meaning to their moments of joy and discovery.
Adventure Rec's Giving Day goal is to raise $35,000 to enable a new generation of student leaders to grow, learn and empower others to be positively impacted by outdoor adventure recreation. Thank you for your support!
The Nik Madsen Memorial Endowment was created in 2018 to support leadership development among Adventure Rec's student field staff. Since then, the fund has reached over $100,000. Last year on Giving Day, the endowment grew by over $34,000, thanks to the generosity of over 200 donors!
Gifts received on Giving Day will go towards the endowment’s current use fund to provide student leadership development experiences in 2021 and 2022. These trainings, seminars, facilitations, and skills certifications will be critical to rebuilding and relaunching Adventure Rec’s student leadership teams and outings programs. Each training and development experience will be guided by Adventure Rec’s student leadership principles of compassion, awareness and adventure.
The pandemic forced a pause in Adventure Rec’s student leadership cohorts and has led to a near total turnover among student leaders. At the same time, the past year has sparked widespread appreciation of the holistic health benefits of time spent outside. Adventure Rec student leaders open doors of opportunities for other UCSC students to connect with nature, themselves and each other. Now is the time to invest in our campus’s future outdoor leaders.
