What is the future of anthropology? How might anthropology change the future? How can you help create anthropologists of and for the future?
The Anthropology Design Lab at UC Santa Cruz is a creative maker space devoted to future-oriented, experimental ethnography. By imagining and devising innovative research methods and forging new modes of collaboration, the Anthropology Design Lab inspires participants to dream, play, and respond to critical issues in anthropology and the communities in which we live.
The Anthropology Design Lab offers undergraduate and graduate students hands-on opportunities to learn and create their own methods through independent and collaborative research projects. Using multiple modalities and media – art, photography, screenwriting, mapping, digital apps and games, digital media, woodworking, videography, and much more – undergraduate and graduate students work together to explore the limits and possibilities of ethnographic research.
To help students engage with communities beyond the university, the Anthropology Design Lab also sponsors talks by anthropologists, designers, and others working at the forefront of these new fields, professionalization workshops, portfolio development, networking opportunities, career advising, and field trips to local companies, organizations, and art/maker/designer groups.
Your donation today will support the Anthropology Design Lab in the following ways:
* Research Fellowships for Participating Students
* Speaker and Workshop Series
* Field Trips
* Supplies and Materials for the Anthropology Design Lab and Artful Ethnography Initiative
Ultimately, your support will help prepare UC Santa Cruz students for future careers in anthropology while also helping them create the anthropology of the future!
