Have a direct impact on the success of our Humanities graduates—our world’s future scholars, storytellers, and leaders in business, government, and the nonprofit sector.
The Undergraduate Public Fellows Program in The Humanities Institute (THI) offers students unique opportunities to connect their academic studies to projects in the community in mutually beneficial ways.
Students receive a $3,000 fellowship award and a placement with a local organization, allowing them to gain professional experience and contribute in significant ways to each organization's specific needs.
The students and the organizations they work with reflect the diversity of UCSC Humanities research and the deep commitment of our students to connect their scholarly pursuits with the public.
“As a student pursuing documentary filmmaking as a career, I highly value the frameworks and skills behind museum curation, oral history, community engagement, and relationship building that this fellowship entailed. The service I provided to the local community—documenting, preserving, sharing, and celebrating history—taught me the importance of keeping history alive and accessible to all.”
—Miki Arlen, THI Undergraduate Public Fellow, Davenport Jail Museum, 2020
