Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Giving Day 2021.

What is Giving Day?

Giving Day is a 24-hour online fundraising drive to support UC Santa Cruz students, faculty, and campus programs. It’s designed to be fun and competitive as project teams reach out to build support for their favorite programs and compete for challenge dollars.

How do challenges work?

Generous donors contribute to a pool of funds that will be used as prize money during this 24-hour period. Check out the “Challenges” tab at the top of the site to learn more details about specific challenge windows.

How do the matches work?

Passionate donors selected projects they were excited about and provided a contribution that will match gifts dollar for dollar on Giving Day, up to the set amount.

Do I have to use the Giving Day site to make a gift?

You can give by whatever method you prefer, but only gifts made using the Giving Day website, givingday.ucsc.edu, will be recorded in real time.

Can gifts be made to any fund?

Yes.  Donors can always support any campus fund they choose, whether or not it is one of the projects competing for prizes. All gifts made on November 3rd  to any fund will count toward Giving Day totals. However, only registered projects on the Giving Day page will be eligible for match and challenge funds.

Do pledges or planned gifts count toward Giving Day?

While all contributions are welcome and appreciated, only outright gifts will count toward the Giving Day totals.

Aside from giving, how can I help?

Is there a minimum gift?

Is it safe to make my gift online?
