Girls in Engineering
Support UCSC's free summer engineering camp for middle school girls!

Girls in Engineering is an interactive engineering camp for middle school girls* designed to build confidence and spark a lifelong passion for engineering and problem solving. The program inspires and demystifies pathways that lead to the study of engineering and careers in STEM. 


Girls in Engineering is offered at no cost to participants and seeks to serve local middle school girls from schools with large percentages of students who are low-income, first generation, or underrepresented in higher education. To further remove barriers to participation, Girls in Engineering offers free daily shuttle transportation to and from camp, free lunch, free snacks, and provides all materials. Each year, we have to turn away eager students because the camp fills so quickly. Your support will help us add additional camp sessions to serve more students in Summer 2023 and beyond. 


During the program, students create their own robots, tinker with circuit boards, program their first computer-controlled video game, envision themselves as computer scientists and engineers, visit state-of-the-art research labs, and explore the careers and educational opportunities available to them in STEM.


Girls in Engineering relies on funding from donors like you to offer the program at no cost to participants. To date, GiE has served more than 650 girls. It is our goal to increase the number of camp sessions to meet the great need for high-quality, tuition-free, STEM enrichment programs.  Please help us to educate, inspire and open new doors for students that otherwise might not have the opportunity.

*Women are currently and historically underrepresented in the fields of engineering and computer science. Girls in Engineering is a fun, supportive, girl-focused environment where participants can explore and reinforce their interest in engineering at an age when studies show math and science interest traditionally drops for girls. The program is girl-identity focused based on research and feedback from program alumni, but students of all gender identities are welcome to participate.
