Film and Digital Media Visiting Filmmakers
For over a decade, the vibrant Film and Digital Media Visiting Filmmakers program has been bringing one visiting filmmaker per quarter to share their work with our student community. Each visiting filmmaker spends three days on campus, allowing for rich and sustained engagement with our students, including a public screening and discussion of their work, an intimate workshop and one-on-one critique sessions with our students. The filmmakers who are part of this visitor series are internationally renowned, award-winning, and groundbreaking makers, and many students describe these opportunities to see cutting edge new work and to have conversations with these makers as a highlight of their educational experience. 




Our visitor series prioritizes diversity, inviting female and gender nonconforming filmmakers, BIPOC filmmakers, and LGBTQ+ makers who reflect our student body and provide meaningful models for inclusive futures in the film, art, and culture industries —in recent years, we've hosted Ghanaian-American filmmaker Akosua Adoma Owusu, Puerto Rican filmmaker Cecilia Aldarondo, Iranian filmmaker Mania Akbari, Asian American filmmaker Lana Lin, and Indigenous filmmakers Sky Hopinka and Adam Khalil. At a moment when many people are belatedly discussing the deep inequalities, discrimination, and lack of opportunity for diverse voices in the film industry, we want to maintain our longstanding commitment to showing students alternative models: diverse campus arts programming generates a sense of agency and possibility for our students.
