Eastern Pacific hawksbill sea turtles are believed to be the most critically endangered of all sea turtle species. We would like to learn more about their movement patterns and their preference for specific habitats, especially mangroves in the Gulf of California, which are considered important foraging areas. To do this, we need to tag hawksbill sea turtles with GPS satellite tags that send us highly accurate information about their movement patterns. This will help us identify areas for formal protection. The more we can learn, the greater the chance we have to protect this critically endangered species.
All donations will make a difference! However, there are specific amounts that include special benefits from the hawksbills:
$50 - Adopt a Hawksbill Sea Turtle - You will receive a photo, flipper tag information, and statistics (weight, length, etc.) for your very own Hawksbill. Then check back in with us in future years to see if your turtle is still in the mangrove!
$150 - Name a Hawksbill Sea Turtle - You'll get to name a Hawksbill turtle that will carry an acoustic transmitter tag and you'll receive its statistics and information.
$500 - Name & Adopt a Hawksbill Sea Turtle - You'll get to name a satellite-tracked adult Hawksbill sea turtle. You'll receive its statistics and information and also be able to view a website with daily location updates.
$5000 – Be part of our crew in the Gulf of California – You’ll have the opportunity to join us on one of the field trips to the Gulf of California and see hawksbills in their habitat.
