Stem cells have tremendous potential for regenerative medicine and the development of new therapies to treat and cure many diseases. Our reprogramming laboratory studies how to turn any cell in our bodies into a pluripotent stem cell, which has the capacity to generate any cell type in the body (such as brain cells, blood cells, etc.). We have discovered that there are hundreds of long noncoding RNA genes that are turned on as cells are reprogrammed into stem cells. With your generous support, we hope to uncover the functions of these mysterious new genes in making stem cells to treat diseases. And thanks to a generous donation, gifts today will be matched on a one-to-one basis up to a total of $1,000.
