The Society for Conservation Biology is an international organization dedicated to promoting studies on maintaining biological diversity. Here at Santa Cruz, our local chapter's mission is to promote the application of science in solving conservation problems and protecting biological diversity in our community. We are a group of ~50 graduate and undergraduate students interested in conservation biology. We come together in local clean-up efforts and biodiversity surveys, bring in guest speakers, and hold viewings of conservation documentaries. In addition, this year we are hosting the 18th annual Bay Area Society for Conservation Biology Symposium at UCSC.
Our environments are changing more rapidly than they ever have in the past. As a donor, you will directly promote student involvement in local conservation efforts. The students you influence through your donation will continue in the field of conservation, and the excitement for the field that SCSCB promotes will be spread by each student. Giving Day provides a time to support students at UCSC in growing beyond the classroom. This Giving Day in particular is important for our group, as we will host the Bay Area Society for Conservation Biology Symposium on May 6—in a year of increased discussion on the future of conservation efforts in the U.S. We hope you will support our mission to educate and expose students to the rich and diverse field of conservation in a changing world!
