UCSC Women in Physics and Astronomy (WiPA) is a student-led group, with members from all backgrounds, that works to achieve a diverse and supportive climate in physics and astronomy. We work not only to address the difficulties that minority groups are facing, but also to inspire others to realize their potential in physics and astronomy.
WiPA hosts diversity workshops and seminars, and organizes mentoring and outreach programs. We also provide assistance to students so they can attend external events and develop skills to address diversity needs.
Your contribution will allow us to continue to provide these resources and develop a supportive culture in our physics and astronomy departments. Small gifts can add up to a lot; for example, 100 donations at $5 each can have a positive impact on more than 100 students’ lives. We’ve created three funding goals to illustrate what your donation will achieve:
$500 - Funds mentoring and outreach programs for the next year
$3,500 - Funds the above programs and 4–5 students’ travel to diversity conferences and workshops
$6,500 - Funds all of the above plus quarterly diversity speakers for workshops and seminars
