Dolphin-Assisted Conservation Project

Each year thousands of marine mammals including dolphins, whales, pinnipeds, polar bears and sea otters strand on coastlines around the world because of oceanic noise, water pollution, starvation and disease.  Imagine if you could change all that!

In a novel partnership, our unique team at Long Marine Lab is working on new solutions for preventing marine mammal strandings by revitalizing the lives of orphaned, retired, and injured dolphins and other marine species. The science of our ambassador animals is used to directly safeguard wild marine mammals including narwhals exposed to oceanic noise, polar bears navigating climate change, and highly endangered Hawaiian monk seals, Chinese dolphins, and Monterey Bay sea otters.  Your help is needed now because of rapid declines in marine mammal populations and recent reductions in grants for marine mammal science.

Your gift will support the care of these remarkable animals, allowing them to teach us about their conservation biology.  As little as $10 will provide a day of fish and training for a dolphin; larger gifts will be used to support the care of these special animals, and to develop new conservation research projects that partner dolphins, seals, polar bears, and otters working side-by-side with UCSC students, researchers and you to create healthier oceans.
