The Science and Justice Research Center

The Science and Justice Research Center (SJRC) is a globally unique endeavor that brings the question of justice into the very heart of science and technology (S&T). We believe technoscience is not just about what happens at the lab bench or a computer; it shapes the worlds we live in, and the ones we hope to build. The SJRC transforms the core sensibilities of science so that the S&T we create has the capacity to respond to complex, pressing problems, including health and social inequities, destruction of ecologies and ways of life, and discrimination. We achieve this by creating collaborative spaces where physical and biological scientists, engineers, social scientists, artists, policy makers, healthcare practitioners, and community members gather to work on problems of common concern, and identify new paths forward.

The Science and Justice Training Program trains graduate students in interdisciplinary inquiry and teaches the pragmatics of engaged collaboration. Students learn leadership skills from world-class experts, including those in our lively community; tools for engaging in critical and ethical analysis; and strategies for collectively addressing situations where questions of science meet questions of justice. Our growing undergraduate curriculum links students interested in health, science, and justice to relevant courses, research, and career opportunities.

Your support creates a vibrant future for science and justice researchers. With your help, we can:

• Endow our Training Program so that we can support next-generation leaders.
• Foster engagements that support justice-focused, next-generation science and technology.
• Build a dynamic digital platform for cross-institutional and transnational collaboration.
• Build pathways from research and dialogue to policy change and social transformation.
• Endow the center to support programming needs, faculty research, and student education.

Thank you for making a more just world possible!
