Land, water and wildlife have never faced greater challenges. To succeed, conservation needs to harness the broadest possible talent and support. The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at UC Santa Cruz seeks out accomplished, passionate students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds and supports them to positions of career leadership in conservation science and practice.
Twenty Scholars from around the U.S. and its territories join the program each year as freshmen or sophomores. In Year 1, an intensive summer course throughout California’s UC Natural Reserves provides field research experience and skills for leadership and collaboration. In Year 2, Scholars pursue paid summer internships in top labs and organizations. Year-round events and connection, and ongoing placement and mentoring, sustain our scholars for life. Your donation will help us provide high quality field based experiential learning opportunities, internship placement at prestigious conservation organizations and institutions, and professional development for the future leaders of the conservation movement.
