Treehouse Childhood Cancer Initiative

Help us train the next generation of cancer researchers!

Your gift to the Treehouse Undergraduate Bioinformatics Immersion (TUBI) program will help train a member of the next generation of computational genomic scientists to join us in our mission of defeating childhood cancer.

ANY AMOUNT can make a difference - if we reach 40 unique donors, we unlock a special $50K gift to support pediatric cancer genomics!

The TUBI program has trained multiple cohorts on bioinformatic projects that could contribute to finding new treatment options for childhood cancers. Students gain the experience of being a part of a research team while learning key bioinformatics concepts and soft skills that they can translate into successful careers.

TUBI alum Dylan Shiramizu had no bioinformatics experience before he joined TUBI as an undergraduate. He signed up for the program during the height of the pandemic and quickly developed a strong sense of community in the supportive TUBI environment. He loved being able to participate in bioinformatics projects as part of a close team and see how those projects were contributing to finding new treatment options for childhood cancers. It was such an influential experience that he decided to pursue bioinformatics as a career and is currently a Research Bioinformatician at Cedars-Sinai!

“Being able to sit in on a tumor board and listen to what Treehouse does and how they apply their research and speak with doctors was a very cool experience,” Dylan said. “I thought most of the research was writing grants and writing papers. I didn’t know… you could get to talk to doctors about data and how it could be applied in a clinical setting!”
