Who are we?

The Archaeology Research Center (ARC) at UC Santa Cruz serves as a center for interdisciplinary archaeological research on the UC Santa Cruz Campus, and a crucial link between UCSC and the broader local community. We recognize the intricate relationships between the practice of archaeology, its utility for exploring the diversity of the human experience, and engaging with and respecting the communities and publics whom we serve.


What do we do?

Our public programs include lectures on archaeological topics of general interest, as well as community events teaching archaeology to kids across Santa Cruz. Our workshops provide day long instruction in archaeological methods to students on our campus, allowing students to learn new techniques. Our ARC grants provide funding for students seeking field experiences. 


Why does your support matter?

Since launching in 2014, Giving Day alone has helped us raise $60,000 for public programs and grants for students. Our public programs introduce students and the public to the diversity of approaches to studying our shared cultural heritage. Our ARC grants  help offset the significant costs of attending archaeological field schools, ensuring students committed to a career in Archaeology have the opportunity to follow their dreams. These grants also provide enough funding to initiate small preliminary projects in their field of study, leading to larger grants from leading foundations.

Your support really matters! For only $1,000, you can send an undergraduate or graduate student to the field, support a graduate student’s preliminary laboratory analysis, or fund a workshop or public lecture. Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 on Giving Day 2023. Your contribution will make a huge difference in supporting eager students seeking careers in archaeology!
