The Baskin School of Engineering is a world-renowned institution known for equipping students with the training they need to succeed in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
UCSC is one of only 21 universities in the U.S. designated as both a research-intensive university (R1) and a Hispanic-serving institution.
In addition, UCSC is an Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander Serving Institution with a large population of low-income students.
For our dedicated students, obtaining research opportunities plays a significant role in the development of their scientific identity, sense of belonging, and ultimate success in their career paths.
However, paid undergraduate research opportunities are limited, and about 34% of undergraduates at UCSC come from households with incomes less than $50,000.
Students from low-income households often have work obligations outside of school and may need to turn down opportunities for highly valuable research experiences.
This is where your Giving Day opportunity arises!
The Student Excellence, Engagement, and Inclusion Program (SEEI) at the Baskin School of Engineering is imploring you to give to the Undergraduate Research Experiences Fund.
Your gift will make it possible for underprivileged students to do research for the first time!
Giving Day donations will go directly towards stipends to support undergraduate students who engage in research, and special priority will go toward students in financial need to fund their FIRST research experiences!
Approximately $2000 supports one student for 10hrs/week for an academic quarter.
Research opportunities have the potential to equip students with the knowledge and skills they’ll need to excel in their fields, as well as confidence and expertise.
Ultimately, your donation will help us level the playing field for students of all backgrounds and income levels, moving us toward a more equitable and inclusive future in the sciences.
Follow the link below to give, and please spread the word on your social media accounts so we can reach our $20,000 goal this Giving Day!
