This year, it's time to embrace a transformative collaboration that empowers and amplifies the voices that have been silenced by the carceral system. Undergraduate students from the Everett Program are partnering with Rahsaan “New York” Thomas, a formerly incarcerated filmmaker, and his collective, Empowerment Avenue, to assist in the production of two powerful documentaries.
What is the Everett Program?
The Everett Program for Technology and Social Change develops leaders who utilize university resources, collaborate with communities worldwide, and employ technology to address social issues, fostering practical and sustainable solutions rooted in a commitment to social justice and environmental regeneration.
Who is Rahsaan "New York" Thomas?
Rahsaan "New York" Thomas is an award winning journalist, podcast host, and filmmaker whose journey as an artist and social justice advocate began while he was incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison. He is now the Executive Director of Empowerment Avenue, an organization that works to develop the careers of incarcerated writers, artists, and journalists pre-entry.

2️. "Silent Treatment" - Get ready for a powerful feature-length documentary that amplifies the voices of deaf incarcerated individuals as they rise against adversity, demanding equality and justice. This is a narrative of strength and change.
The Student Revolution:
Our Everett students will be deeply involved in these projects. They'll be engaged at every stage, from managing cameras and equipment to editing and post production. Your support is the essential to the production these films, covering vital expenses such as equipment, post-production software, and enabling students to work closely with incarcerated artists and have a hands-on learning experience that transcends the classroom.
