Global and Community Health Program

Please join us this Giving Day in supporting student research in Global and Community Health!

Global and Community Health (GCH) at UCSC makes annual Health & Wellbeing Awards to enable undergraduate and graduate students to complete a research project that addresses health challenges in collaboration with a community organization or international non-governmental organization. The GCH program, including both staff and faculty, assesses applications and mentors successful awardees.

COVID has underlined anew that health and wellbeing are urgent areas in more need of research, study, and practical action. Our interdisciplinary program seeks to contribute to the improvement of health and well-being in communities worldwide, and that most definitely includes pressing needs here locally in California. Building upon collaborations across departments, divisions and the community in Santa Cruz, we seek to address forces affecting health outcomes that range from the molecular, ecological and genomic to the global, political and economic. Ultimately our goal is to support improvements in health outcomes both locally and globally by educating a new generation of global and community health leaders, supporting their community-engaged research, and preparing them to deliver on the promise of health for all.

Our Health and Wellbeing awards consist of $500 per awardee. We hope to make between 10 and 20 awards per year for the next 3 years. Please share whatever support you can afford to help us help our students make a vital difference in both their educational journey and elucidating pathways towards improved health outcomes and inclusive health systems that serve everybody.
