Stem cells are the future of human medicine, whether seen from the standpoint of developing cell therapies, understanding human development, or preventing disease. The Institute for the Biology of Stem Cells (IBSC) encompasses research, training, and facilities. We aim to support and advance stem cell research by promoting interdisciplinary discoveries in biology, engineering, and information science to enable cures. One of our main goals is to educate and train tomorrow’s stem cell researchers. Please join us in supporting our outstanding students!
UC Santa Cruz has been asked to join UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley for a Stem Cell Retreat taking place at Asilomar this spring. Our project supports sending a group of UC Santa Cruz undergraduate stem cell researchers to the retreat. This is a fantastic opportunity for UC Santa Cruz students to participate in scientific discussions on the latest findings in their field and to foster potential collaborations with their Bay Area UC colleagues.
The student cost of the retreat is $175 per person. Even though this amount covers overnight accommodations and meals for the retreat, it is a large expense for most college students to pay. On Giving Day, donations go even further: A one-to-one match fund of up to a total of $500 is available thanks to a donation by the Institute for the Biology of Stem Cells (stemcell.ucsc.edu). This match fund means we can sponsor four undergraduate researchers with the first $350 in gifts!
