Our upcoming objectives include conducting retrospective toxicity testing of seabirds, with the goals of guiding conservation actions. Samples that have already been collected from an assortment of seabirds that have died in Monterey Bay, California, in the last 10 years have been stored frozen. We will analyze these samples for microcystin toxin. Microcystin toxin is an emerging threat to marine wildlife, and is not yet monitored in the marine environment in Monterey Bay. The data we collect by analyzing 10 years' worth of samples will give us a better understanding of how this toxin is affecting birds in our area, and how we can mitigate the problem! Testing for this type of toxin is expensive, and we need your help! Please learn more about our project here. Our matching gift of $500 has been met today! Let's keep those gifts coming in!
