Led by our artistic director, UCSC Professor of Music Hi Kyung Kim, the Pacific Rim Music Festival brings together composers, musicians, and visual artists from around the world to create and perform innovative new works for the Santa Cruz community and beyond. Building on a reputation for musical excellence, the 2017 Pacific Rim Festival will be our most ambitious season to date. This October and November, we will host a series of concerts featuring 40 new compositions of all-new music written for a visiting traditional Korean orchestra and Western ensembles playing together. These concerts showcase the excellence of our UC community, as many faculty and graduate students have written the pieces that will be performed during the Festival. This Festival will also make history as the first performances of new music written for traditional Korean orchestra performed in the United States.
Along with bringing groundbreaking, world-class performances to UC Santa Cruz, the Festival provides our students with the opportunity to directly engage with artists through our educational workshops and performances. When you give to the Pacific Rim Music Festival on Giving Day, you are not only bringing musicians from Korea to our very own backyard, but you are also building bridges across cultures, gathering our greater UC Santa Cruz community together to explore the world through music.
Thanks to a generous donor, gifts made on Giving Day will be matched dollar for dollar up to a total of $10,000 for the day.
