The Emeriti Association has social, educational and, to some extent, political goals. We want to stay in touch with colleagues, maintain old friendships and develop new ones. Continuing education is important - what are the younger faculty up to? We also want to make sure that the university knows we have not faded away. The emeriti have been called the “11th campus” because of their continuing contributions to scholarship, teaching, and community service. It is also important, pragmatically, to keep an eye on our benefits.
We appreciate donations to support these goals. Our funds are used for our luncheons, lectures and communication with our far-flung emeriti community. One specific need in the future is equipment and technical help to record and transmit our activities. We want to stay in touch with everyone, not just those who are able to attend our events in person.
Miriam and Ed Landesman have established an endowment to support the UCSC Emeriti Association. One purpose of the endowment is to establish a fund to which others can contribute. The number of emeriti continues to grow, as will our need for financial support. Your donation will be added to our endowment and thus will provide long-term support for emeriti.
Sincerely,
Barry Bowman
President of the UCSC Emeriti Association
