La Celebracion: 50 Years of Latinx Excellence

Since its founding year of 1965, the University of California Santa Cruz has been home to many Chicanx Latinx students. These students became an integral part of the fabric of the university, and as the years progressed, the amount of Latinx student representation grew. As a result, UCSC has become a leader in the retention and graduation of Chicanx Latinx scholars and, in 2012 was named a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). As of January 2021, UCSC is one of 539 Hispanic-Serving Institutions and one of only 22 Hispanic-Serving Research Institutions. As the Chicanx Latinx Year-End Celebration (CLYEC) nears its 50th anniversary, El Centro staff would like to take a moment to celebrate and honor the legacy of Latinx achievement with La Celebración: 50 Years of Latinx Excellence at UCSC.

For the last 49 years of its 56-year history, UCSC has celebrated the academic and cultural successes of graduating seniors at the Chicanx Latinx Year-End Celebration (CLYEC), put on by the Chicanx Latinx Resource Center (El Centro). The CLYEC has hosted graduating classes of more than 300 Latinx-identified students in recent years as they crossed the stage, with more than 3,000 friends and family members in attendance.

With La Celebración: 50 Years of Latinx Excellence at UCSC, we hope to bring together the 50th graduating class of Latinx slugs with those who helped pave the way for their success; Latinx Alumni, Staff, Faculty, and Community members. Your donation will help make this celebration possible and honor the many Latinx slugs that have crossed the CLYEC stage.

By donating today, you will:
Help celebrate the 50th UCSC Chicanx Latinx graduating class!
Build on intergenerational community and mentorship!
Provide the gift of funding for La Celebración (lookout for an invitation)!
Help honor the strong Latinx community found on the UCSC campus!

Please help us celebrate Latinx Excellence at UCSC; your support is crucial to recognizing past and future graduates! Thank you!
