The Los Angeles Review of Books (LARB) Publishing Workshop is an unprecedented opportunity for participating graduate students to gain an introduction to the world of non-academic publishing, with a special focus on the West Coast literary scene. The Workshop curriculum combines eminent speakers with hands-on training in book and magazine production that also reflects “LARB’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and independent literary production.” UCSC has sent three cohorts of graduate students with full funding to the LARB Publishing Workshop; participants stress the amazing connections they make, which may nurture professional prospects beyond the academy, and the breadth of the knowledge they gain. Many have also gone on to publish in various of LARB’s on-line literary venues.
All money donated goes directly to a graduate student's tuition and stipend.
