UC Santa Cruz Women in Physics and Astronomy (WiPA) is a student-led group with members from all backgrounds. We work to achieve a diverse and supportive climate in physics and astronomy. We help minority groups overcome challenges and inspire everyone to realize their potential in STEM—we’re women of many colors, straight and LBGTQ, who are determined to support each other and succeed in science!


Our Programs Include:

  • Student mentoring and outreach
  • Diversity seminars
  • Tutoring and STEM education to local grade schools 
  • Scholarships to pay for graduate school applications
  • Guest speakers in physics and astronomy with a focus on diversity
  • Support for BIPOC, WOC, transgender and gender non-conforming students in STEM

Giving Day is our only fundraising effort—we need your gift today. Your contribution will insure the ongoing delivery of these essential programs, develop a supportive DEI culture in physics and astronomy, and help us all succeed. Every gift makes a difference. A gift of $25 will help five students, and a gift of $500 will positively impact over one hundred students lives. Please join us in promoting and nurturing diversity in STEM and succeeding in science.
