Mock Trial is a competitive collegiate organization that prepares mock criminal and civil court cases and competes against other universities from across the nation. Our goal as an organization is to help students develop public speaking skills and confidence as well as introductory knowledge of the legal justice system. We also pride ourselves in representing the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs as respectful and inclusive, as we have won awards such as Spirit of AMTA, an award chosen by other competing teams to the team that best represents Mock Trial sportsmanship.
Our accomplishments as an organization are all the more rewarding because we are an entirely student run organization. Unlike many other collegiate Mock Trial programs, we are self-funded. Despite this, our team has competed at national and state level competitions and won countless individual attorney and witness performance awards. While we are proud to represent the idea of student agency that has made UC Santa Cruz unique as institution, our student-run status does present serious funding challenges. We are asking for your support in travel expenses, purchasing case materials, and tournament and registration fees. Your support will ensure that Mock Trial can be an opportunity for all students. Thank you!
