Overview
Since the fall of 2022, we at Santa Cruz Artificial Intelligence (SCAI) have been hosting "SCAI is No Limit," a competition to encourage students to apply their AI/ML knowledge in a hands-on learning environment. The event is styled similar to a hackathon but is more open-ended, as teams get the liberty to develop any AI project they desire to answer the prompt. This competition aims to allow participants to gain experience applying AI/ML in an environment that promotes innovative thinking and collaboration skills, thereby enabling future success in research or industry. A vote from the attending audience—and in the future, a panel of judges brought in from industry—decides the winners.
Support
Keeping in mind the varying levels of experience of each member, we aim to support each participant as they develop their projects. To do so, we host weekly workshops consisting of two sections: a catch-up session and a learning session. The catch-up session provides an opportunity for participants to receive help on material that has already been covered. The learning session helps guide members through each step of the development process, covering everything from how to collect data to formatting their final presentation, and provides individualized help as needed.
Empowering Future Developers
Since the spring of 2023, “SCAI is No Limit” has been available to all UC students to participate and provides driven students the unique opportunity to compete in a rigorous AI product development competition. In participating, contestants develop good data science practices, a comprehensive understanding of ML models, and effective presentation skills. Additionally, the contestants have the prospect of presenting their work before industry professionals.
Your Contribution
By donating to our cause, you will help fund the competition's prize pool, as well as potentially finance teams with paid elements in their technology stack. With enough donations, we would be able to further expand our reach and make “SCAI is No Limit” a well-known and revered statewide collegiate competition for years to come.
