The Graduate Student Summer Activities Program aims to create a cohesive and welcoming graduate student environment. In moving to a new city, a new department, or sometimes a new country, incoming graduate students are faced with numerous challenges. Finding a sense of community can be difficult, especially as many graduate students move in during late summer when campus is relatively empty.
This program is set out to provide peer leadership opportunities for current graduate students to lead events and activities that closely tie into their interests and hobbies. The program also offers an encouraging environment for students to try new things, meet new people, or reconnect with old friends.
Donations will go toward paying for supplies for events, renting spaces, and providing small leadership awards for our dedicated student event leaders. These donations directly benefit graduate students, as we can offset the price of admission to some events, thus significantly lowering any financial barrier to entry for activities. We also know that the fastest way to get graduate students to events is to offer food and snacks!
