Art Department Visiting Artist Fund
Student success in the arts beyond the classroom depends on exposure to a diverse global community of contemporary artists and their practices. A visiting artist fund will give students insight into the real-world issues of being a professional artist and will create a bridge between UCSC and the greater art world. How?
Students will have the opportunity to meet successful artists who can help them make connections to the art world, develop their professional skills, and expand opportunities. This contact with a diverse group of today’s important working artists is especially important for BIPOC and underrepresented students who may come from communities without access to arts institutions and will be inspired by successful artists from their communities.
A visiting artist program will educate through class visits, group discussions, open studio hours, collaborative projects, and lectures.
Students will be assisted in exploring their career values as they network with guest speakers in creative fields (alumni, faculty, graduate students, professional artists), prepare and create career-related documents (update résumés, cover letters, project proposals), and learn about a variety of arts careers.
Please take a moment to consider generously supporting the Art Department in establishing and evolving an exciting and diverse Visiting Artist Fund that brings UCSC students in dialogue with important international and contemporary artists.
The Art Department thanks you for your support for this program and our deserving students.
