The Spring Give 2023

As we near the end of our regular season, UCSC Women’s Rugby Club could not be more pleased with ourselves. We are incredibly proud of the progress our new players have made, we have celebrated our numbers with our first B-Side games in many years, and beat the previously undefeated past conference champions!

Congratulations to our Men’s rugby Team for persevering through their D1A conference debut. The challenges they have faced have immensely grown their team on and off the field, and we cannot wait to see how this team continues to develop in the coming years. 

The Men’s and Women’s Rugby teams remain committed to raising funds for our club through outreach, volunteer work, and merchandise sales. We have had many successful fundraisers put on by our team, including Ruggers for Roses during Valentine’s season, and a classic donut-selling table on Science Hill. However, we rely on the generosity of alumni, family, and friends for the majority of our needs. 

Your support enables us to practice with quality equipment, travel across California and Nevada, host 15-team tournaments at UCSC, record and broadcast matches, engage in pre-season and postseason competitions, and compete at the highest possible level! Your donations not only ensure that both teams can compete at the top of their game but also increases player recruitment and retention by decreasing financial barriers to participation.

Inspired by the collaborative history of the UCSC Men’s and Women’s Rugby Club origin stories, we are now taking a unified, equitable approach to rugby fundraising. To that end, we created a joint foundation account that can support the needs of both teams. This new equitable funding paradigm puts rugby first and ensures that both teams have similar opportunities and experiences.

Our initial goal this year was to raise $30,000 for our teams to meet the travel, equipment, and recruitment needs of the 2022-2023 season. We have raised a lot, but have not met this goal. In the coming conclusion of our regular seasons and playoffs following, we are aiming to raise 10,000 dollars. With your support, we can continue to push Slugby to the top of college rugby.  

The most beautiful part of rugby is its enduring community of past and present players, coaches, and supporters. Together, we can gather the funds to support the UCSC Rugby Club the same way we always do: As a Team.
