Support graduate student success via the new Graduate Student Peer Mentor Program!
The Graduate Student Peer Mentorship Program aims to create a safe space for incoming or returning graduate students who want an opportunity to connect with experienced graduate peers. Graduate student mentors help mentees understand and navigate requirements in their own division and/or program, as well as general expectations of graduate student life at UCSC. Crucially, mentors also provide perspectives and knowledge outside traditional program curricula, such as grad-specific campus resources, identity-based affinity groups, and navigating advisor-advisee relationships.
Mentors and mentees are matched based on academic interests, career goals, life experiences, identities, and any additional factors important to the mentee. This allows for holistic mentorship that speaks to all aspects of a mentee's well-being and success.
The Graduate Student Peer Mentorship Program supports mentor-mentee engagement through events and workshops hosted throughout the academic year. These workshops are designed and run by a team of lead mentors representing each academic division. While workshops are open to all graduate students, they are intended to center the needs of groups who have historically been excluded from graduate education, such as first-generation college students, international students, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, and women.
