The Spring Give 2023 is here! This is your opportunity to join us in building and supporting a community where Queer and Trans people thrive!
The Lionel Cantú Queer Resource Center envisions and works towards creating a campus that connects, retains, and sustains Queer and Trans students, staff, faculty, and alumni. We envision communities where Queer and Trans people are fully liberated, valued, and celebrated.
Over the years, the number of students experiencing financial hardship has tragically increased. Often these students have been cut off from their families and communities of support after coming out (and sadly, some having been outed to their families by others). Students experience grief and isolation due to the loss of their support system—feelings that are intensified by also dealing with financial instability. This can lead to high levels of stress, inability to focus on their studies, and other harmful impacts on their well-being.
One way the Cantú Center has been able to help students in crisis is by providing emergency grants that help students pay for their academic fees, rent, utilities, food, school supplies, and therapy expenses. We also work to connect them to other resources such as Slug Support, Slug Cents, Financial Aid, and CAPS. Funding also helps support our other basic needs programs such as our food pantry, clothing closet, and sexual/menstrual health pantry. Our goal is not just to offer financial support; our hope is to remind students that they are not alone and that they have a community of solidarity that supports, affirms, and celebrates them in their wholeness.
Please join us in continuing and expanding this work. We appreciate your support—today and every day!
